AUSTRALIAN comic Brendon Burns addresses black/white relations in his home country in his Brendon Burns: Black Comedian show at the Burning Duck Comedy Club in York on Sunday night.

"Brendon has done it again, delivering an uncompromising, eye-opening show that was the sleeper hit of this year's Edinburgh Fringe," says Al Greaves, promoter of the 8pm show at The Basement, City Screen. "Not since his 2007 Fringe Best Show win with So I Suppose This is Offensive Now has Burns penned such a unanimously praised hour of comedy.

"Not so much an 'edgy truth-sayer', but a traditionally harmless and inclusive warm-hearted court jester, Brendon’s influence is ubiquitous throughout the stand-up world. Often replicated but never matched, his shows aren’t just extended sets: he specialises in creating experiences, forever experimenting with the form and throwing himself new challenges."

Burns' night will be Burning Duck's third gig at The Basement, in the wake of Daniel Simonsen and Stuart Bowden. Coming next there will be Beth Vyse's As Funny As Cancer on Thursday, November 17.

"The show is an extraordinary look at Beth’s battle with breast cancer," says Al. "Hear the tale of her Stoke-on-Trent family, her time with Nelson Mandela, acting and thieving at the Royal Shakespeare Company, settling down with Michael Jackson and finding she has cancer, all before the age of 30."

Looking forward to Sunday's gig, Al says: "We're very excited to bring Brendon to our new venue in York. Brendon has been intentionally touring more alternative venues and clubs, hunting out lovely, attentive, comedy-literate audiences, like our regulars at the Burning Duck, so we're confident he'll have a great show.

"Last week we had a wonderful second birthday show at the Black Swan with Geins Family Gift Shop and lots of regulars, some of whom baked homemade burning duck cupcakes! Our next show there will be on November 8 with David Trent headlining."

Tickets for Sunday cost £12 online at burningduckcomedy.com or on the door from 7.30pm.
