Gag of the Week

Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, The Basement, City Screen, October 21

LAUGH Out Loud Comedy Club returns to The Basement next Friday with an 8pm bill of Dan Nightingale, Jay Handley, Jake Lambert and master of ceremonies Damion Larkin.

Nightingale has appeared on John Bishop’s Only Joking on Sky TV and served as Ross Noble's tour support, as well as being a regular television warm-up for Bishop, Jonathan Ross and Celebrity Juice.

Playful, spontaneous and creative, he mixes fiendishly accurate observation with energetic characterisations and killer punch lines in his lightning-quick act, where he can switch from the ridiculous to the poignant.

Nightingale began his comedy career in Newcastle in 2002 before moving to Manchester for ten years, during which time he founded the Frog and Bucket's Beat The Frog amateur night for emerging comedic talent.

Unfazed by offers of fame and fortune, he may well be the only act in the country who has been offered a deal by pretty much every top management agency in Britain but turned them all down.

Jake Lambert combines youthful charm and one-liners with short stories and original thoughts and has starred in the BBC New Comedy Award and performed on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4.

Jay Handley meditates on single life in his 20s, finding love in his 30s, politics, religion and his bemusement at the modern world, all delivered in a laid-back, almost zen-like style. Resident compere Damion Larkin has been larking about for ten years on the comedy scene.

Laugh Out Loud has booked two more shows for The Basement on November 18 and December 16, so watch this space for more details. Tickets for October 21 cost £17 on 0871 902 5726, at thebasementyork.co.uk or in person from City Screen or £20 on the door from 7.30pm.
