MICK Ferry will headline the first night of York’s newest comedy night, Love Comedy Live, on September 29 at Haxby Sports Bar.

“I had the pleasure of gigging with Mick last week in Huddersfield,” says comedian and promoter Philip Smith. “He left me and the audience in absolute hysterics and I cannot wait for him to headline our first show.”

On the 7.30pm bill too will be Yorkshire humorist and comedy coach Silky, who has headlined many comedy clubs in his career. “It really means a lot to me to have Silky as the opening act on our debut night," says Philip. "He's been a great mentor to me in comedy and is one of the funniest and nicest comedians on the circuit.”

Philip bided his time, waiting for the right venue to launch the Love Comedy Live night, but when Arron Fishwick, from Aspire Event Production, showed him the Haxby Sports Bar, he knew it was the one. “It has a purpose-built stage, the right equipment and comfy seats, as well as its own bar,” he says.

"The Sports Bar is easy to get to with good access to buses and taxis and its own dedicated car park, and it promises to have a great environment that will be set up perfectly for live comedy.”

The night will be held together by compere Dan Nightingale, who was voted MC of the year in 2015, and Philip himself will be joined in the middle section by Lauren Pattison. "She reached the finals of the BBC New Comedy Award, beating 700 others to make the final six and she's definitely one to watch for the future as she's effortlessly funny," says the promoter.

"As well as established acts, my policy is to give newer acts the chance to be on the same line-up as professional comics for the comedy nights we have in place for September, October and November. Further details of our next shows will follow.”

Tickets are available on 07875 939567 or 07525 189410, at aspireeventproduction.co.uk or from behind the bar at Haxby Sports and Social Club, North Lane, Haxby, York.
