MOULIN Ouse, York’s answer to the Moulin Rouge, are returning to the Great Yorkshire Fringe for two nights of "quirky cabaret".

After their sold-out appearances at last summer's inaugural festival, York producers Coquette Events have assembled a cast of international burlesque and cabaret performers for shows in the White Rose Rotunda spiegeltent tomorrow at 7pm and The Turn Pot next Friday at 8pm. Only a few tickets are still on sale for tomorrow's performance, with better availability for the second night, but prompt booking is advised.

Burlesque, cabaret, dance, comedy and the Yorkshire Cancan will be on the Moulin Ouse bill each night, tomorrow featuring burlesque superstar Russell Bruner, from Portland, Oregon; British comedy plate spinner Trevor Organ; burlesque dancer Talulah Blue, from the 2011 series of Britain’s Got Talent, and circus and variety performer Velma Von Bon Bon, compering the show in the guise of her cocktail-fuelled Russian alter ego Natalia Kalashnikov.

Orientale Dance Company, Cece Sinclair, Doc Leroc and Cocoa City Cabaret will be performing too.

Em Brulee, Orientale Dance Company, Trevor Organ, Violet Blaze, Miss Betty Blue Eyes, Russell Bruner and Cocoa City Cabaret will be in action on July 29 in the second line-up put together by Coquette co-producers Daisy De Lux and Pandora Amour.

Russell Bruner: knows how to tie a bow tie

"We're absolutely thrilled to have been invited back to the festival," says Daisy De Lux. "Last year’s shows were amazing and we had such a great reaction from our audiences. We have a couple of acts returning, such as the Orientale Dance Company belly dancers, purely because they were audience favourites. There are plenty of new performers too, including an official King of Burlesque, a Sultan of Spin and a ‘Cadbury’s Queen’, a chocolate-inspired act that will leave you craving more.

"Filled to the brim with variety and finished off with a Yorkshire twist, Moulin Ouse promises a unique night out. So, if you fancy trying something different this summer, why not come to the cabaret?"

Introducing the leading acts, Velma Von Bon Bon's alter ego, Natalia Kalashnikov, is a boozy cocktail of glitz and glam, mixed with a dash of silly, a slice of eccentric filth, and shaken to the point of madness. The love child of a famous acrobat and a Soviet Russian spy, this pint-sized ball of energy is a mistress of ceremonies for cabaret shows home and abroad.

Russell Bruner is a combination of vaudevillian charm and burlesque sex appeal; a moustachioed devil of a man, a swing dancer who delivers a slapstick male strip with bumbling finesse. As a performer and choreographer, he has won multiple titles and awards at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas, and he loves classic cocktails and knows how to tie a bow tie too.

Tickets are on sale at £18 at greatyorkshirefringe.com and from B.O.B, the fringe box-office bus parked at the Parliament Street village green.
