CANADIAN comic Glenn Wool is stopping off in York on Saturday for a rare club date at the Hyena Lounge Comedy Club during his European tour, before returning here for a solo show at the Great Yorkshire Fringe in July.

Wool began his career in his hometown of Vancouver in 1995, moving to London in 1998 and quickly becoming one of the rising stars of the British comedy scene.

He has since hit the international circuit in a big way, performing in Singapore, Holland, Dubai, New York and Los Angeles, where he now lives, as well as playing such festivals as Latitude, Bestival, Download, Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds.

Wool is a regular face on British television, appearing on Russell Howard's Good News and Never Mind The Buzzcocks and writing and starring in What's The Story? as part of Channel 4's Comedy Lab season.

York Press:

Jonny Awsum and his trusty guitar

Jonny Awsum is returning to York to open the 8pm show at The Duchess, in Stonebow, with his brand of musical comedy. "Armed with an impressive arsenal of jokes and his trusty guitar, Jonny is a comedic whirlwind who's risen quickly from a fresh-faced newbie to a highly sought-after headline level act," says Hyena Lounge promoter Toby Clouston Jones.

"He was the support act for much of master baker Paul Hollywood's tour and is a familiar face from the Experian adverts, also featuring in Cravendale's Cats with Thumbs campaign, which has been viewed more than a million times on YouTube."

Sam Gore takes Saturday's middle slot. "After cementing his position as one of the best new voices on the circuit with no less than five New Act of the Year titles, Sam's gone on to impress audiences everywhere, from weekend clubs to music festivals, biker rallies to theatres," says Toby.

Matt Reed hosts the night with his mix of audience banter and cheeky life stories. Tickets are on sale at £14 on 01904 641413 or at hyenalounge.com or at £16 on the door from 7pm.
