THE Sitting Room Comedy Club returns to the Monkbar Hotel in York on Thursday with an 8pm line-up of Gavin Webster, character comedian Keith Carter, Kiri Pritchard-McLean and compere Danny Deagan.

“It's another top drawer quartet headed up by the terrific Gavin Webster," says promoter Tom Taylor. "I have two favourite comedians and Gavin is half of them, plus we've got a tip top undercard as well."

Webster has appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Stand-Up Show and Live At The Comedy Store and has played Sitting Room's Harrogate night three times. "He's blown the roof off on each occasion," says Tom. "Every time he gigs for us, a member of the audience will come up to me and ask why he isn’t on telly every week. He’s breathtakingly funny.

“Gav provided the writing and was many of the voices for both series of BBC1’s A Walk On The Wild Side, but he's at his best as a live performer and was crowned Comedian’s Comedian of the Year in 2014. He combines brilliantly original routines with being uncompromisingly funny, and I'm delighted Gav's agreed to close our May show.”

Keith Carter as lovable scally Nige

Singer/musician Keith Carter will take to the stage in his guise of lovable scally Nige, who once prompted Capital of Culture judge Sir Jeremy Isaacs to say, “He helped Liverpool win the bid,” after seeing Nige perform at the cultural bid show for the judges.

“Keith is one of the best character comedians I've had the pleasure of watching and I've never seen him have a bad gig," says Tom. "Nige is a great creation and it’s not hard to see why he’s been picked to support acts such as Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas.”

Sitting Room first-timer Kiri Pritchard-McLean

Kiri Pritchard-McLean takes this month’s middle spot. "I've worked with Kiri loads in the last year; she consistently smashes it, audiences love her and it's about time she played Sitting Room," says Tom.

“Whip smart with material to match, last month Kiri was nominated as Best Compère in the Chortle Awards. Richly deserved, she was also a finalist in the prestigious Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition and Amused Moose Laugh Off Award.”

Charming and mischievous York resident Danny Deegan, who last year headlined the AAA Stand-Up Late show at the Edinburgh Fringe, will act as host and compère.

Tickets cost £10 from the Monkbar Hotel reception in Monk Bar or at sittingroomcomedy.com
