VISIT Will Seaward's website at willseaward.com and you will find a photo story of the booming-voiced comedian battling a giant squid.

Glory be, it has a warm and happy ending, and happier still, the exuberant Seaward will be heading Yorkwards on March 8 for his headline slot at The Burning Dick Comedy Club.

"One of Burning Duck's favourite acts, Will is a purveyor of sea shanties and ghost stories, but we aren’t entirely sure what to expect from him this month," admits promoter Al Greaves. "Based on his smash-hit run at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe, however, here’s hoping he might try some on-stage alchemy."

What might that involve from a comedian with no chemistry training whatsoever, Al? "Ornate glassware! Mystic powers! Dubious liquids! The possibility of unlimited wealth! The possibility of explosions and painful death!" he says, in anticipation of Seaward attempting to transmute base metals into gold, for real.

The Telegraph has called Seaward "part Brian Blessed, part Oscar Wilde, part crazed Victorian music hall MC...a naturally funny fellow”, so anything might ensue on Tuesday.

The 8pm bill will be opened by Tom Burgess, from the double act Sam And Tom, this time performing his new character creation, Peter Fleming”. “I’ve seen Peter a few times now and he's probably my new favourite character,” says Al.

“He's a children’s TV presenter from the Sixties and Seventies, whose TV shows were sadly erased by the BBC, so he has to re-enact some of his most popular characters and catchphrases live on stage”.

Next Tuesday's compere at The Black Swan, in Peasholme Green, will be another Burning Duck regular, guitar-playing MC Edy Hurst, who is a manic ball of comedy energy, according to Al.

Meanwhile, tickets are selling well for Burning Duck's “work in progress” show on March 21 with headliner Alfie Moore, the former police sergeant turned stand-up comedian, and support act Danny Deegan. "This is a unique opportunity to see both these acts performing extended sets and trying out new material for their forthcoming festival shows at a bargain price of only £3 per ticket," says Al.

Tickets for Burning Duck's gigs are on sale online at burningduckcomedy.com and in person at Bison Coffee, in Heslington Road, and The Inkwell, in Gillygate, or on the door from 7.45pm.
