THE buzz is building for Daniel Triscott's monthly Duke's Comedy Night at the Duke of York pub in King's Square, York.

"Given the momentum the night is starting to gain, getting there a good ten or 15 minutes beforehand might be beneficial for any potential audience members as it's first come, first served with respect to the seating," says the ex-pat Cornishman, who has his line-up in place for the next Duke's night on March 15.

"The February Duke's Comedy Night was, once again, a fantastic night of comedy; there was probably around 30 to 35 people there watching it, so it was full to capacity. I even had a local set of film makers come down and film a few shots of the audience to help out with a project they're making. There were no dropouts from the acts, so not only was it enjoyable to watch them all, it was also a lot less stressful for me as everything ran really smoothly!"

On the March bill will be headliner Jack Gleadow, Stephen Harper, Jade Fearnley, Kath Morgan-Thompson and Scott Liversidge. "Jack has got a wealth of comedy experience, having performed over 200 gigs, and he's worked with Buzz Comedy, Hilarity Bites, Giggles, and The Comedy Store," says Daniel.

"Jack's three main influences are Frank Skinner, Lee Evans, and Lee Mack. whom he likens his material to as it's cheeky humour and quite high energy. So I'm 100 per cent confident that Jack is ideal to close off the night, which again I hope will be a great showcase of some relatively unknown comedy gems."

Step forward University of York Comedy Society member Stephen Harper. "I'm keen to help those guys out with gigs to branch out of just the university, and I'm glad to have Stephen on the bill," says Daniel.

Harper is really excited about so much in the world, leading to his happy storytelling about the weird and wonderful things he has encountered, but nor is he afraid to call out the world when he thinks he has found something wrong.

Jade Fearnley is an instinctive signing by Triscott for March 15. "Jade is an act I've only had the fortune of gigging with once but that's all that was needed for me to definitely want her on the bill for the Duke's," he says. "She has a fantastically charming style that's engaging and fun for the audience, plus she has great skill in incorporating improvised elements during her performance. On the one occasion I did gig with her she, quite rightfully, won 'performer of the night' and I thought she was very very funny indeed."

Daniel has seen Kath Morgan-Thompson perform a couple of times. "Having got to know her a bit, she's definitely both a fantastic person and fantastic act," he says.

In her own words, Kath's comedy "detects high levels of middle-aged sass". "I'm lightly out of touch, confused, with way too much make-up. Be very glad I'm not your mum," she says.

"I've created a monster," says professional comedian and comedy coach Silky, who runs stand-up courses in Leeds, where Kath has sharpened her comedy claws.

Daniel "really likes Scott Liversidge's act a lot", "He's genuinely trying to be alternative and as I love to have a varied bill, having Scott is a great way to bring that to the audience as a different little kind of treat that I'm certain they're going to enjoy," he says. "Scott's performances are not only greatly influenced by alternative styles of comedy, but they also have a improvisational quality to them which he hones each month as the compere for the Speaker's Corner comedy night down in Sheffield. On top of that, he asked that I made sure to inform you that he was People Magazine's Transvestite of the Year in 2014."

As usual, Daniel will be hosting the 8pm show and providing his own iPod filled with beautiful string quartets for the interludes. Admission is free. Any updates on the March show or Duke's Comedy in general can be found via Twitter @TheComedyDuke or via the Facebook page, The Duke's Comedy Night.
