TONY Law, one of the big hits of last summer's Great Yorkshire Fringe in York, promises to "explode into the future absurdly" in his new show.

In Frillemorphesis, the Canadian-born comic with the Islington home address returns to his shouty roots as he is reborn as his more innocent, better self. In the words of his publicity machine, he will "crush your heart with his beautiful art and insurmountable genius".

"Tony will move around and communicate verbally his powerful ideas though the medium of... moving and talking. Deeply astonishing and stunningly intellectual, Frillemorphesis has no message and yet, a message," it says here.

"Tony cares about his audience and he’ll show you by reminding you about some things you already know. And air hugs. A lot of it will be made up on the spot. Obviously, that’s not true, it’s actually very tightly scripted but it will appear to be made up. Or will it?"

Does that make it any clearer? Probably not, but then Law was the presenter of Tony Law’s Surreal Guide To Surreal Comedy on BBC Radio 4 Extra, wasn't he.

Looking forward to Law's arrival on Sunday night, Selby Town Hall arts officer Chris Jones says: "We’ve got one of the most highly regarded and unhinged comedians in the UK coming here this weekend. Tony Law is legendary on the circuit for being…well, a brilliantly absurd, unpredictable force of nature.

“He's a total one-off. His goonery and tomfoolery are in the finest traditions of British and American surrealist comedy, from Spike Milligan to Harry Hill, Noel Fielding to Stewart Lee, but there’s also a unique grit and pathos to his work. He's enormously well regarded across a notoriously judgemental industry and his shows are a real experience, in the best possible way. It’s going to be a whirlwind ride."
