THE Sitting Room Comedy Club returns to the Monkbar Hotel, in Monk Bar, York, on February 4 after a sold-out first show of the year in January.
Promoter Tom Taylor says: “We had a fantastic start to 2016 last month with an absolutely packed room – it was our fullest house by some margin – for a line-up of Paul Sinha, Danny Buckler, rising star Peter Brush and compère Scott Bennett that delivered big laughs from start to finish.
“This month’s quartet of David Trent, Sean McLoughlin, Jonny Pelham and compère Jim Smallman are just as funny and I’m really looking forward to what is set to be another great night”
Sean McLoughlin
Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee David Trent tops the 8pm bill. "I first saw David at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2012 and was blown away by his talent and originality," says Tom. "The show I saw, Spontaneous Comedian, was a total sell-out and received an Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination. He's one of the most talked-about people in comedy right now and I urge you to see him.”
Sean McLoughlin opens next Thursday's show on the back of supporting Doc Brown and Katherine Ryan on their nationwide tours and starring in the first series of Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central.
“With an effortless and humorous delivery, Sean is one of the hottest stand-up comedians around and I'm delighted to have booked him now before he hits the bigtime," says Tom. "This guy is going to be one of the best.”
Jonny Pelham
Jonny Pelham, a Chortle Comedy Award Best Newcomer nominee, takes the middle spot. “Last year, Jonny played both our Harrogate and Leeds clubs and put in two of the best performances I've ever seen. I'm looking forward to seeing him do the same in York,” says Tom.
"In 2012, Jonny was runner-up in the Chortle Student Comedy Award and So You Think You’re Funny?; in the same year, he reached the final of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award ,where he was the judges' choice."
Jim Smallman
Jim Smallman, one of the resident compères at the Sitting Room’s Leeds club, makes his York debut as next Thursday's host. Tickets cost £10 from the Monkbar Hotel reception or at sttingroomcomedy.com
