THIS weekend's Saturday Night Lounge plays hosts to a winter-warming 8pm bill when Carl Hutchinson, Mitch Benn, Dom Woodward and Phil Ellis play The Duchess in Stonebow, York.

"We're welcoming four of the best stand-ups in the country to our friendly club," says Hyena Lounge Comedy Club promoter Toby Clouston-Jones.

Opening the show will be musical comedian Mitch Benn, best known for his weekly topical songs on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show and his own series Mitch Benn’s Crimes Against Music. His last appearance in York came at the Great Yorkshire Fringe in Parliament Street last summer, when his gig sold out.

Saturday's opening act, Mitch Benn

Saturday's headline slot goes to Carl Hutchinson, often to be seen in York as tour support to Chris Ramsey and soon to embark on a solo tour this spring. "He's a regular fixture at the Edinburgh Fringe, and with appearances on TV shows such as Russell Howard’s Good News on BBC3 and Dave’s One Night Stand, big things are expected of this Geordie act," says Toby.

Taking this weekend’s middle slot will be Dom Woodward, a veteran of the North West comedy circuit. "He's been performing for over 15 years, so he's a safe pair of hands," says Toby. "He's cheeky, charming and full of energy, he weaves together side-splitting stories about his life and tells belly-aching jokes. There’s a naughty twinkle in his eyes but his act is warm, personal and inoffensive."

Multi-award winning Phil Ellis returns to York to host the show, fresh from another sold-out run at London’s Soho Theatre with his anarchic children's show, Funz & Gamez, and his headlining slot at York's Burning Duck Comedy Club.
