BURNING Duck Comedy Club's last show of 2015 is a charity fundraiser for York Arc Light Hostel on Tuesday at the Black Swan Inn, Peasholme Green, York.

“We were inspired to present this gig for Arc Light after attending a previous event at The Fleeting Arms organised by comedian Maxie Wade," says promoter Al Greaves. “As well as raising money for this important cause, Tuesday night is an opportunity to promote awareness of the work of Arc Light.

"Representatives from the charity will be present to explain how this welcoming and inspirational space offers their clients not only a place to stay but also the chance to make positive changes in their lives."

The Arc Light charity provides accommodation and support to homeless men and women in York. "They've been delivering services since 1999 and operate from a signature facility, in private grounds close to the city centre, which has 35 bedrooms, meeting and counselling spaces as well as education, health, fitness and community facilities," says Al.

The night will feature some of Greaves's favourite Yorkshire comedians, who are giving up their time to support this charity, among them the headline act Peter Brush, a former BBC New Comedy Award finalist.

"Peter has previously opened a night here and presented a preview of his 2015 Edinburgh Fringe show, Older Than The Oldest Dog That Ever Lived, during our Woodsduck festival," says Al. "In his show, a supernatural experience at Christmas sparks an hour of musings on paranoia, mortality and whether or not to eat brown rice.”

The Mirror newspaper has noted how Brush is a "very different sort of stand-up to the strutting alpha males that we get so bored of”. "That makes Peter a good example of the sorts of acts we like to watch at Burning Duck Comedy Club," says Al.

Tuesday's line-up also features emerging York acts, such as newcomers Phil Smith and Maxie Wade, as well as the more firmly established James Christopher and character comedy from Sir Dickie Benson.

The night will be hosted by Ross Brierley, from the cult Leeds comedy sensation The Not So Late Show With Ross And Josh, who was the master of ceremonies for Burning Duck's first birthday show in October.

Tickets cost £4 at burningduckcomedy.com or on the door from 7.45pm for the 8pm start. Arc Light welcomes donations and contributions from businesses and members of the public; online donations can be made at justgiving.com/arclight.
