YORK performance poets Stu Freestone and Henry Raby are bringing another night of slam poetry to York in the form of Say Owt Slam #7 on Friday in The Basement at City Screen.

"Over 2014 and 2015, Say Owt Slam has held a number of high energy, sell-out showcases of talents from across the city and beyond," says Henry. "It's been been attended by poets from Newcastle, Hull, Leeds, Manchester, Durham and, of course, York, and the latest round will feature 15 brand new poets, each vying for the title of Say Out Slam champ and a £45 cash prize.

"Who knows what our poets will bring to the table, something hilarious, something political, even something surreal? But what we do know, the Slam is highly energetic, engaging and shows that performance poetry can be a great night out. You’ll have to come along to find out, maybe root for a poet and cheer when they claim victory."

Friday's event will be headlined by Harry Baker, the former UK Slam champion, European Slam champion and World Slam champion. "Harry has performed across the world, he's appeared in Don’t Flop rap battles and he has a mountain of five-star reviews for his Edinburgh Fringe shows," says Henry.

"His poetry is witty wordplay that's sublimely clever, juggling concepts of philosophy, mathematics and dinosaurs. It will leave you in a limbo between awe-struck and rolling in laughter."

Admission is £6 on the door from 7.30pm.
