COMEDIAN, impressionist and political satirist Rory Bremner will star in a January curtain-raiser for Scarborough's Coastival festival.

Bremner and jazz singer and comedian Ian Shaw will take to the Spa Theatre stage on January 26 at 7.30pm, ahead of the festival run from February 12 to 14.

Organisers promise “exclusive close-up entertainment from these two leading lights, taking in pithy, up-to-the-minute inner and outer dialogues, political and otherwise, from the peerless Bremner and similar observations at the keyboard from Shaw".

Coastival’s organisers, the Scarborough arts development agency Create, are delighted to welcome the duo to the East Coast resort. “Rory Bremner and Ian Shaw will make a fantastic teaser ahead of Coastival and we're delighted they can join us in January," says director Wendy Holroyd. "It promises to be a great night to get people in the mood for the full festival in February.”

More than 100 events, activities and installations, most of them free, are planned for Coastival, kicking off with a parade, followed by a weekend of music, theatre, fine art, installations and activities for children and young people. The festival programme is available from Woodend, Scarborough Spa, the Stephen Joseph Theatre and other outlets.
