LOUISE Jones's Channel 5 Seasonal Movie takes an irreverent look at the traditions and tropes of Christmas films tonight in The Drama Barn at the University of York's Heslington campus.

"I'm parodying their overblown plots, terrible caricatures and sickly holiday spirit in a show that's equal parts humorous and charming," says producer and writer Louise, who incidentally writes reviews for The Press.

"You will witness characters flung together in a town that's home to guardian angels, ghosts of Christmas past and maybe even the son of Santa. Anything could happen, but one thing's for sure: together we'll find the true meaning of Christmas."

New writing by Louise combines with York directing and acting talent in this parody of the festive season.

Emily Thane, last seen in York Shakespeare Project's Henry V in October, directs a cast of Molly Parker, Charlotte Vinsen, Ben Pearson, Bianca Jenkins, Mary O'Connell, Zack Sizer,
James Gamblin, Marcus Crabb and Lisa Owen.

Channel 5 Seasonal Movie has been switched to The Drama Barn at short notice after The Basement at City Screen suffered flooding earlier this week. "Thanks to The Drama Barn for stepping in at the last minute and accommodating the show," says Louise.

Tickets for the 8.30pm performance will be on sale at £5 on the door from 8pm.

Director Emily Thane will perform in Not Cricket Productions' new version of A Christmas Carol in the York Guildhall basement from December 11 to 16.
