MOVE over, the Moulin Rouge, make way for York’s very own Moulin Ouse at the Great Yorkshire Fringe tonight and on August 1.

Daisy De Lux and Pandora Amour, co-directors of York cabaret and burlesque producers Coquette Events, will present two nights of burlesque, magic, music and circus performers in a Yorkshire twist on the glitter-and-feather Parisian variety shows.

Hosting the first 8.30pm performance in The Turn Pot on St Sampson's Square will be blues chanteuse Kiki Deville, as featured on BBC’s The Voice. She will introduce gentleman juggler and stripping unicyclist Count Adriano Fettucini, from sunny Brighton; international burlesque performer and feisty dancer Lady Wildflower, co-producer of the Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival; and northern belly-dancers Orientale Dance Company.

Taking part too will be Velma Von Bon Bon, with her triple decker of comedy, circus skills and glamour, and Cocoa City Cabaret & Friends, York's very own vintage vaudeville entertainers.

Simon South may not have the best surname for Yorkshire Day on August 1 but nevertheless this magician and freakshow performer will be the compere for the second Moulin Ouse, when Velma Von Bon Bon, Orientale Dance Company and Cocoa City Cabaret & Friends will return.

Edd Muir will bring his training with Cirque Du Soleil and Chinese State Circus members to his cheeky slant on the ancient art of Chinese pole acrobatics; Cece Sinclair will evoke the golden era of "bump'n'grind" burlesque with fabulous costumes and sassy routines; and the custard cream-loving duo Tidy & Tips will be purveying their Yorkshire brand of comedy burlesque.

"We're looking forward to presenting Moulin Ouse in The Turn Pot, a beautiful Spiegeltent," says Pandora Amour. "These tents were originally used as travelling dance halls in the 19th century and have stunning mirrored interiors and comfortable seating, more akin to a glamorous ballroom than a marquee.

"After more than seven years of putting on burlesque and cabaret nights in York, these shows are the biggest events that we've ever done, and we’re delighted that the Great Yorkshire Fringe have chosen us to be part of the first festival. We're so excited about bringing performers to York whose acts would never fit inside a smaller venue, such as Chinese pole acrobat Edd Muir or comedy burlesque performer Velma Von Bon Bon with her giant Martini glass."

Coquette Events specialise in burlesque, cabaret, variety and vintage entertainment under the direction of Daisy De Lux and Pandora, who each have more than ten years' management and performance experience. "We're completely independent and are York’s only regular producers of burlesque and cabaret entertainment in the city," says Pandora.

"Many of our performers are Yorkshire based, and people are often amazed to find out that we have a number of world-class cabaret acts within the region. With one of our shows taking place on Yorkshire Day, we think it’s the perfect time to celebrate this. So, if you’re in the mood for a spectacular, quirky night out this summer, dust off your glad rags and get ready for some true Yorkshire glitz."
