ROBIN Ince presents An Evening With...two Robin Inces in The Basement bar at City Screen, York, on Sunday night.

In an evening of two halves, the Hyena Lounge Comedy Club’s favourite comedian/science enthusiast starts by giving an unhinged stand-up comic lecture ahead of his run at this summer’s Edinburgh Fringe “Most of your brain doesn’t know you exist, so Robin attempts to find out how conscious we really are,” says Hyena Lounge promoter Toby Clouston-Jones.

“Having investigated particle physics and evolutionary biology, the host of BBC Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage goes into the matter that led to it all, the human brain, in his new stand-up show. Best known as a science populariser, he promises a dissection of what makes you. Probably.”

In the second half , Ince will be joined by his fellow comedian and angry partner in crime, Michael Legge, as they rant about what’s been bothering them. “They’re both excellent solo comics, getting furious about pretty much anything, from chronological inaccuracies in historical documentaries to, well, just downright stupid behaviour, but together, they rile each other up something proper,” says Toby.

Tickets for Sunday’s 7.30pm show cost £10 on 0871 902 5726 or at hyenalounge.com

SATURDAY Night Lounge welcomes Justin Moorhouse, Dan Nightingale, Seymour Mace and Brendan Riley to The Duchess in York on Saturday at 8pm.

Introduced by cheeky Scouser Riley, Phoenix Nights star Moorhouse opens the show in his long-awaited return to York as he prepares new material for his Edinburgh Fringe run, before the slightly surrealist Mace takes the middle slot as he ventures back into stand-up after five years starring alongside Johnny Vegas in the BBC series Ideal.

Nightingale closes the night, stepping in as a late replacement for Carl Hutchinson after playing the New Zealand Comedy Festival. “Dan is one of our favourite all-time comedians at the Hyena Lounge and never fails to rip the roof off his gigs, which is a rare skill in a basement venue,” says promoter Toby Clouston-Jones. Tickets cost £14 online at hyenalounge.com or on the door.
