REGINALD D Hunter has a new show for 2013, In The Midst Of Crackers, that will visit York Barbican tomorrow night.

Originally from Albany, Georgia, the droll American comedian has been based in Britain since studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and now makes his mark as a regular panellist on such shows as Have I Got News For You.

Since his last appearance in York at the Grand Opera House on his Sometimes Even The Devil Tells The Truth tour in September 2011, he has released his debut DVD, Reginald D Hunter Live.

Earlier this year, the 44-year-old satirist made the national headlines when he upset members at the Professional Footballers Association awards ceremony with his “offensive” after-dinner speech at the Grosvenor House hotel in Mayfair.

“There were anti-Jewish jokes, there were anti-women jokes, there were anti-Irish jokes, there was the repeat use of the ‘n’ word,” said PFA deputy chief executive Bobby Barnes after the April flashpoint. “If you were looking for a scenario of absolutely everything we wouldn’t want on the night, I think you had a montage there.”

So much so that the PFA took legal action to ask for a full refund of his fee.

Whether Hunter was in the midst of crackers at the dinner table that night or not, he will not be tempering his views on his 2013 tour.
