HYENA Lounge Comedy Club promoter Toby Clouston Jones has compiled a bill of award-winning comedians for this weekend’s Saturday Night Lounge in York.

He considers James Acaster, Joe Lycett and Chris Stokes to be “among the brightest stars of tomorrow”, and has placed them in the care of host Barry Dodds. “While Barry hasn’t won any awards, we still think he’s the perfect man for the job,” says Toby.

Acaster is one of the most hotly tipped acts of 2013, following his nomination for the Edinburgh Comedy Award last year, his appearances on Dave’s One Night Stand and Russell Howard’s Good News and his support slot on Milton Jones’s tours in 2010-2011, when he played to 100,000 people. “His laidback style, playful wit and appetite for the unconventional is a treat to behold,” says Toby.

Lycett has been a guest on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Mock The Week to go with his weekly slot on BBC1’s Epic Win. Like Acaster, he was an award nominee at last summer’s 2012 Edinburgh Fringe, and now he is preparing for next month’s run of his Some Lycett Hot show at London’s Soho Theatre.

Stokes burst on to the stand-up scene last year when he won Best Show prize at the Leicester Comedy Festival and supported Milton Jones on his Lion Whisperer tour. “He has several Radio 4 shows under his belt and a spot on Dave’s One Night Stand in the can,” says Toby.
