York writer Miles Cain to perform at Cheltenham Festival

10:47am Saturday 14th April 2012

YORK-BASED writer Miles Cain, the organiser of the York Literary Festival, is to perform his own work at the Cheltenham Poetry Festival next week.

Miles, whose debut poetry collection The Border was published last year by Scarborough-based Valley Press, will perform on a bill that also features writers such as Owen Sheers and Helen Mort. In June, Miles will also appear at Bridlington Poetry Festival, which poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy headlined in 2011.

“I’m really pleased to be doing these events,” says Miles, who is also a storyteller and musician and works regularly in schools around the UK.

“Poetry has a small but dedicated following in the UK, and I always find these kinds of events inspiring. The arts should be a social thing – meeting audiences and other writers is always great fun. Both Cheltenham and Bridlington are great events to be performing at.” Miles’ upcoming dates are:

• Cheltenham Poetry Festival – Wednesday, April 18, 9.30pm.

• Taylor’s Cafe and Bookshop, Scarborough – Saturday, April 28, 8pm.

• Leeds Combined Arts, HEART, Headingley – May 16, 7.30pm.

• Bridlington Poetry Festival, June 9, time TBC.

•York Poetry Society – Friday, July 6, 7.30pm.
