New opening hours at York recycling centres

WASTE recycling centres in York will have longer opening hours from the start of April.

The new times, which will run from April 1 to September 30, will see Hazel Court open from 8.30am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8.30am to 4pm on Sundays, while the Towthorpe and Strensall site will be open every day from 8.30am to 7pm.

Beckfield Lane, which will close from April 16 following City of York Council budget cuts, will be open from 5pm to 7pm, Monday and Friday, and 10am to 2pm on weekends during its final days.

All sites will be open as usual on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

“As the evenings become longer, the opening times have been extended to allow residents to make full use of the recycling facilities available,” said Coun Dafydd Williams, the council’s cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods.

i wonder how long it would be before the council change their minds on closeing beckfield lane down when people start takeing the garden rubbish on the buses to get to hazel court and then start getting cleanning bills from the bus companies that run around acomb and surounding areas.

I have received an Email from the people trying to keep the Beckfield Lane recycling centre open.

Apparently they are lobbying the Council meeting on Thursday evening and asking eveyone to sign the on line petition which can be found at

And the new recycling centre for York West starts at the A1237, at the junction with the B1224 and ends at the A59 at the junction with the A1237 and any minor roads, lanes and grass verges that you may find in between. At busy times you may use any routes extending to the A64. Please note that at all times you will not be monitored by CCTV and the council tax payers will still be picking up the bill for clearing up the waste.
