The club, nestling between the Yorkshire Wolds and the Howardian Hills, midway between York and Scarborough, has an idyllic 27- hole parkland course with three loops of nine holes, all arriving back at the clubhouse.
It offers a great day-out for visiting golfers in the summer and boasts a no temporary greens policy through the winter.
The practice facilities at Malton are first-class and all are open to non-members. With the 12-bay covered driving range and large dedicated short game practice area the club offers a multitude of possibilities for a spot of quiet practice on bunker shots, chipping and putting as well as the long game.
If you need some advice, the club’s PGA professional, Michael Brooks, is on hand. Assistant secretary Emily Newman says: “The friendly and relaxed atmosphere here is the first thing that strikes any newcomer to the club. New golfers are made to feel extremely welcome and encouraged to get involved within the different sections of the club; we have very active sections of ladies, juniors, rabbits (higher handicappers) and seniors. We are also proud of our band of category one golfers, who fly our flag most ably in local and national competitions.
“Our membership has a limited number of vacancies now for both gents and ladies, and we are keen to offer the Malton and Norton Golf Club offers a warm welcome to both members and visitors opportunity to golfers new and old within the area to come and try our facilities. On joining, all new members will receive an introduction to the club free of charge from our professional staff.”
Former British Amateur Champion and three times Curtis Cup Player Emma Brown (née Duggleby) has been a member at Malton and Norton throughout her career. “Malton is such a friendly club and has supported me brilliantly,” she says. "Our ladies section is extremely welcoming and I hope more ladies take up the game as they can get so much enjoyment and reward from it."
Head professional and former Walker Cup player Michael Brooks is introducing coaching taster sessions with the goal of getting more women involved in the game. "Ladies are a hugely important part of any golf club and I am looking forward to helping the ladies develop their already successful section and to offering new lady golfers the opportunity to try out the game in a relaxed environment,” he says.
