Young riders from top York Cycling Schools Poppleton Ousebank Primary and Skelton Primary launched the city’s second Bike It Action Day at St William’s College.

The action day, organised by UK sustainable transport charity Sustrans, saw head teachers, pupils and school travel experts from three regions come together to celebrate the success of the Sustrans Bike It project and the work of Cycling City York in raising the number of children cycling to school.

York was one of the first areas to work with Sustrans on Bike It. The newest York Bike It Officer, Naomi Wells Smith, said she had seen “huge enthusiasm” among the 11 schools she works with and a “really encouraging” increase pupils cycling to her schools.
