MORE than 100 new jobs could be on their way to Ryedale through plans to build a new meat factory.
The proposals for the production plant in Norton will be debated by Ryedale District Council’s planning committee next week and have been recommended for approval as long as concerns over noise are addressed.
The scheme has been drawn up by Trundley Design Services and would see the factory, which would make meat-based pastry products, being built at the junction of Hugden Way and Westfield Way, on the Norton Grove Industrial Estate.
The firm is hoping to create 120 new jobs through the development and its plans have been backed by the district authority and Norton Town Council, saying they would provide the area with an economic boost.
A report into the application by planning officer Rachel Smith said talks were being held between the applicants and environmental health officers from the council about how noise and smells from the site will be kept to a minimum, with Trundley saying they plan to install acoustic fencing.
“The council’s head of economy and housing advises that the development is particularly welcome at a time of economic uncertainty and increasing unemployment,” said the report.
“The site is well related to the local and national road network. Indeed, by summer 2012, improvements to the Brambling Fields junction on the A64 will allow most vehicles travelling to and from the facility to avoid the congested centre of Malton and Norton.”
Trundley’s planning application said the design of the factory would be of a high standard and include 78 car-parking spaces and 40 cycle spaces. It said energy-efficiency measures would be included in the scheme.
Planners have said the appearance of the building would be in keeping with other businesses on the industrial estate.
