Pocklington plans brings jobs hope

PLANS for a new restaurant, pub and petrol station at an East Yorkshire business park look set to get the go ahead.

Proposals have been submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council to build the facilities, which could create 92 jobs, on the southern part of BroadHelm Park, an 11.3-hectare site next to Pocklington Industrial Estate.

BroadHelm’s scheme includes a family pub and a separate restaurant at the Hodsow Field site, as well as a filling station and a shop.

The application goes before a planning committee on Thursday and although officers have recommended deferring a decision while they seek comments from the highways control department, Alan Menzies, the council’s director of planning and economic regeneration, said that if no issues surrounding traffic were raised, he should be authorised to approve the scheme.

He said the development would provide a valuable facility for drivers on the A1079 and users of the industrial estate, without harming town-centre trade.
