JOBS are at risk at a computer game depot in York as bosses look to close the operation down.
GAME has its headquarters in Basingstoke but has a depot at Clifton Moor which operates as a refurbishment centre and employs 43 people.
The site deals with any faulty stock that may be returned, repairs and also has a call centre for customer queries along with office and administration staff.
In 2007, GAME bought out Gamestation, which was set up in York.
Employees were told yesterday morning that they were entering into a 30-day period of consultation with a view to closing the site down.
In an official statement, a spokesman for GAME said: “Following the successful integration of Gamestation, many head office functions were moved to Basingstoke last year to streamline support functions across the Gamestation and GAME brands.
“This has proved effective and the group is now proposing to review its central infrastructure in order to further maximise opportunities for growth and efficiencies.
“The proposals would see the call centre and refurbishment facility in York move to the central facility in Basingstoke, and the realignment of the structure of some departments in Basingstoke.
“As a result, consultation has started today with employees in York and Basingstoke, with the possible loss of all 43 jobs in York plus circa 40 roles in Basingstoke, out of 460.”

Pretty disgusting really. Have a lot of friends who have worked there recently, given a lot of hard work and loyalty and have ended up getting the $hitty end of the stick. Won't be long until Clifton Moor is a ghost town. We already have the former Magson's building that's been sat dormant since December 2008.
