MORE than £50,000 is on offer to businesses in a bid to help secure jobs for graduates in Hambleton district.

The scheme has already helped 22 graduates secure jobs in 17 businesses in the area, including solicitors, engineering and retail companies.

The fund is an internship scheme, with Hambleton District Council offering up to £5,000.

Further grants of up to £3,999 are available through Teesside University.

The cash is aimed at encouraging small to medium sized businesses to consider taking on graduates.

The authority launched the scheme in January 2015 and this is the latest release of money available.

Two special events are being held where business owners and managers can talk to the council and to university officers about the scheme.

Existing graduates on the internship scheme will also be there to give advice and tell people how it works.

The events are on Wednesday, April 15, from noon to 1.30pm, at the springboard centre in Stokesley.

A further event is being held on Thursday, April 16, from noon to 1.30pm, at the Evolution Business Centre in Northallerton.
