SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury’s will create the equivalent of 20 full-time jobs when it opens its new store in Piccadilly, it has said.

As previously reported, the firm plans to open on the ground floor of the White Swan Hotel, where 18 new homes are being created on the upper floors.

Sainsbury’s has submitted planning applications to City of York Council to cover its planned shop frontage and signs.

The firm does not specify precisely how many full time or part time roles it will create, but says the balance will be equal to 20 full-time posts.

The store will be Sainsbury’s second in the city-centre, following the creation of another in Queen’s House at the foot of Micklegate, which is due to open on December 4.

Tesco has also opened in Goodramgate, Low Ousegate and Piccadilly in recent years, while Morrison’s recently opened in Spurriergate.
