THE creation of a new aggregate plant at Drax Power Station will bring 20 new jobs to the area.

Lytag Ltd recycles waste products from the coal-fired power station into aggregate, used instead of crushed rock or gravel in construction projects including the Olympic Aquatic Centre, Wimbledon Centre Court and The Deep in Hull.

The new plant has been built to meet increased demand for the material, and previously created temporary construction jobs. Gareth Moores, managing director of Lytag Ltd, said more new jobs could be created at the site in future.

He said: “So far, we have recruited 20 employees to work at the new facility, and we hope to be able to create more jobs in the future.”

Peter Emery, production director at Drax, said: “The opening of the new facility is a very positive milestone for the power station and the local community. The new plant will be important in helping us to ensure recycling of the fly ash produced by our electricity generation process, which means more efficient use of our materials.”
