Free bus travel offered to job seekers
9:13am Tuesday 8th January 2013 in Jobs News
Bob Rackley from EYMS, Paul Hodgson from Trans Dev, Pete Taylor from First York, Mick Gatenby from Arriva, James Alexander Leader of City of York Council, and Will Haldenby from Job Centre Plus launch the free bus travel initiative
JOB seekers in York are being offered free bus travel in a scheme aimed at helping the long-term unemployed get back to work.
The initiative, which is a joint effort by bus operators First, Arriva, Coastliner and EYMS, is part of the national Bus For Jobs scheme and will offer free journeys for those who have been unemployed between three months and a year.
Nigel Featham, managing director of Arriva Yorkshire, said: “We’re delighted to be taking part in this initiative. Free bus travel will enable job seekers across Yorkshire to make the most of the transport network this January and hopefully widen their opportunities for work.”

I full know well how much travel costs when looking for a job and it annoys me when I am just being brought in to fill the 'diversity' tick box when they full know well that they aren't going to appointment me as it is nothing to whatsoever to do with my skills and it ends up costing me money.

Also, is this a real scheme where jobseekers get an actual physical pass, or just some office project where you have to send your bus tickets in then do a few hail-mary's to get divine help for obtaining your reimbursement?
For those interested, the bus is a brand new "BF62" registered bus, only delivered withint the last few days.

Would be better if it was from the start of unemployment rather than 3 months.
