TEAM spirit and colleague collaboration was celebrated as the prizes were handed over for the Yorkshire Marathon’s Corporate Relay.

While individual triumph was enjoyed by the thousands who took part in the inaugural Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon last month, the James Potter Eggs Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay invited businesses and organisations from across the region to submit a team to cover the 26-mile distance between them.

Yesterday the winning teams were presented with their awards at a prize-giving ceremony at the Rose and Crown in Lawrence Street.

First home in the open category, which was free to any combination of runners, was leisure organisation Hassra, whose six members from offices in Leeds completed the 26.2 miles in a total time of two hours, 46 minutes 20 seconds.

Their time was just 36 seconds ahead of the team from race sponsor James Potter Eggs, of Thirsk, which finished in second place.

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, whose runners included former Leeds United and England right-back Danny Mills, double Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft and BBC Look North sports reporter Tanya Arnold, came in third.

The mixed category – which saw teams submit three male and three female runners, saw legal firm Addleshaw Goddard, which has an office in Leeds, win the category with a time of 2.58.37, with Banana Kick in second spot and Strensall Striders in third.

Fast Feet on the Run, a team from chemical specialists Croda, in Hull, lived up to their name to win the female category in a time of 3.50.53, beating Dunnington Primary School into second. The Sunday Shufflers, a team of mums from Dunnington, came home in third place.

Each member of the corporate relay teams ran a leg of the race, covering distances ranging from three miles to six miles.

James Potter, director of James Potter Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs, said: “As a thoroughly Yorkshire brand, we were delighted to be part of the first Yorkshire Marathon.

“The corporate relay was a great success with teams coming from across Yorkshire and beyond.

“The fact our team managed to pick up a prize in what was a hotly contested competition was the icing on the cake for us.”

Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon event lead Lynne Preston added: “The corporate relay brought an extra dimension to the event and gave organisations the opportunity to raise money for charity and make a bit of sporting history by taking part in the very first Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon.

“We hugely appreciate the efforts of all those who took part and are extremely grateful to James Potter Eggs for their sponsorship of the corporate relay.”
