BRASS bands will take on a Tour de France theme as amateur cyclists deliver yellow conductor’s batons to bands across the county for the ‘Tour de Brass’.

The yellow batons, which have been specially crafted by York tuba player Pat Hunter, will be used in the concerts due to take place over the weekend of June 21 and 22 as part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014.

The Tour de Brass, presented by Brassed On York Ltd, is one of only two community projects to have been selected from York to represent the Yorkshire Festival 2014.

Ten brass bands, including four Shepherd Group brass bands will be playing throughout the day in York on June 21 at stages in Parliament Street and in the Coppergate Shopping Centre.

The highlight of the Tour de Brass is the Yorkshire Prom at York Barbican on June 22 at 7.30pm with the world-famous Black Dyke Band.
