A YORK art gallery is encouraging visitors to the Tour de France to take home a visual reminder of Yorkshire to be enjoyed in the home every day, and inspire a return visit.

The Kentmere House Gallery in Scarcroft Hill has brought together a selection of original paintings and artists’ prints which celebrate the people and landscape of Yorkshire, and will on show until July 13.

Artists include many born and bred in Yorkshire, such as Susan Bower, Jack Hellewell and John Thornton.

Gallery owner Ann Petherick said: “As many of those visiting Yorkshire for the Tour de France will be coming to the city for the first time and will have no idea of the delights they have been missing, we need to find a way to encourage them to visit again.

"This is Yorkshire’s chance to show what it can do, and I want visitors to have the chance to take home good quality paintings as mementos of their visit, setting a standard that is appropriate to a world-class city. Part of the success of the Tour de France will be the long-term economic benefits it brings to the region, and the generation of repeat visits will form a vital part of that.”
