It's now just 150 days until the Tour de France comes to York.

On July 6, the world's best cyclists and tens of thousands of spectators will gather as the city hosts the world's biggest annual sporting event.

York is the departure point for Day 2 of Le Grand Depart, the opening stage of the event.

Here are two official videos to get you in the mood and and below is a brief low-down on what you need to know:

 

  • The riders will set off from Knavesmire then head into York city centre, before leaving via Bootham, Clifton Bridge and Boroughbridge Road. View the route map here.
  • After leaving York, the cyclists will head to Knaresborough, Addingham, Keighley, Haworth, Hebden Bridge, Cragg Vale, Ripponden, Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Holme Moss, the Peak District National Park, Langsett, High Bradfield and Sheffield.
  • City of York Council expects 180,000 people to visit York to see the Tour here.
  • 3 billion people in 188 countries are expected to watch at least part of tour, with 15 million spectators lining the route.

  • The route covers 3,600 kilometres and includes 200 riders in 22 teams.

  • There are three stages in the UK, including two in Yorkshire.

  • Council officials hope to enable keen local cyclists to ride the route once the Tour riders have departed York.
