A HUGE banner has been unfurled down the side of a Yorkshire dam to announce an arts festival which will be part of the county’s Tour de France celebrations.
Yorkshire Festival 2014 will showcase creative talent from around the region in the build-up to Le Grand Depart, the opening stages of the world-famous cycle race, in July.
The banner was unveiled yesterday by Tour supporter Yorkshire Water at Lower Laithe Reservoir near Haworth, one of eight locations for a display of “land art” throughout the festival.
The second day of the Depart will leave York on July 6.
The 100-day festival starts on March 27, with the aim of encouraging mass participation from the Yorkshire public.

Coun Sonja Crisp, City of York Council’s cabinet member for tourism, said: “Yorkshire Water’s support of the festival will help ensure York’s creative talent and communities will be involved in a fabulous festival we can truly be proud of, prociding residents and visitors to the city with the opportunity to participate in and celebrate the very best of York.”
