FIVE men who were arrested following the death of a ten-year-old boy in a York hit-and-run tragedy have been bailed by police.

The men, who are all aged between 16 and 22, were questioned after Sean Hamilton was knocked down and killed by a van as he crossed Holgate Road on October 3.

The Our Lady's Roman Catholic Primary School pupil, of Linnet Way, Foxwood, was heading home following a trip to the cinema at around 8.20pm when he was hit by what police believe was a blue Ford Transit.

Officers have said the occupants of the van then stopped at the scene before abandoning the vehicle and running off.

The five men who were subsequently arrested - three of whom are from Carlton, near Selby - attended a police station yesterday to answer bail. They are next due to report to police in the New Year.

Witnesses to the crash are still being urged to come forward to help the police investigation, with officers appealing for anybody who was travelling in a light-coloured 4x4 vehicle - which Sean is believed to have walked behind as he crossed the road - or who knows who it belonged to to contact them. This vehicle was not involved in the accident itself.
