YOUNG bell-ringers from St Lawrence’s Church in York are about to ring the changes for their first wedding – that of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

St Lawrence’s Church bell-ringers range in age from eight years old to 90, said Alice Longden, one of the tutors who will lead the ringing on April 29. From 10.25am to 10.55am, about five children and three adults will ring a Call Change, and will open the louvres of the church so the bells ring out loud and clear.

Alice said: “The children have not rung for a wedding before so for their first to be the Royal Wedding is something quite special.”

The group will also write a letter to the palace to inform them of their plans in the hope of receiving a letter in return, Alice said.

“They are so thrilled at the idea of doing it. It will be a wonderful thing in 50 years time to look back and say they rang bells for the Royal Wedding,” she said.
