A SERIES of royal wedding street parties have been confirmed to take place across the region.

More than 50 royal wedding street parties are officially registered to take place in North and East Yorkshire.

Eleven streets have registered with the City of York council to hold street parties, over 30 streets have been confirmed by North Yorkshire County Council, including 13 in Harrogate, and 18 have registered with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Among the planned street parties in York are celebrations in St Sampson’s Square.

Tony Sissons, of The Three Cranes pub, said he hopes to dress part of the square in bunting and decorations.

He said: “It’s open to the general public. It will help get us into the spirit of the occasion and it’s a good reason to celebrate. Most people, whether they come from the UK or not, will be glad to get involved. It would be nice to get the whole square involved.” The streets registered are those with through traffic and those planning larger parties - countless smaller parties on private streets are also expected to be held.

York streets registered with the council to hold parties include the lane to the rear of 52-62 Haxby Road, Terrington Court in Strensall, Ramsey Avenue in Bishopthorpe and Wood Way, Northmoor Gardens and Pear Tree Close in Huntington.

Eleven roads are being closed in East Yorkshire to hold parties including Hardrada Way in Stamford Bridge, as well as Garrick Close in Pocklington.

In York, The Royal York Hotel is hosting a Royal Wedding Ladies Luncheon on April 28 including a menu of Sandringham Spring Salad, St Andrew’s Soup, Middleton Pork Loin and Pear William.

A private screening of the wedding is being held at a fundraising party hosted by Coun Sue Galloway in the Mansion House and at the Dean Court Hotel in York. Tickets to the hotel event cost £29.75 and include morning coffee, a glass of bubbly and lunch.
