SOME of York’s poorest people will be able to enjoy a healthier diet under a scheme for York shoppers to grab extra groceries to donate to foodbanks.

Customers at Tesco in Askham Bar will be given an extra shopping list and asked to pick up items to donate at the end of their shop.

York foodbank will sort the food into emergency parcels containing three days’ supply of nutritionally-balanced food.

Tesco will provide a 30 per cent top up. Numbers of York people turning to the foodbank this year has surged with more than 3,360 people being given the three-day emergency hand-out in the past year.
