THE project manager for York’s proposed community stadium at Monks Cross, Tim Atkins, has responded to criticisms of the planned 6,000 crowd capacity.

The Press reported yesterday how some fans were unable to get in to a packed Bootham Crescent on Saturday, for York City’s relegation dogfight against Southend United, prompting some supporters and club spokeswoman Sophie Hicks to question whether a 6,000 capacity at Monks Cross would be sufficient.

Mr Atkins said yesterday: “We’ve always said that the York community stadium will have a minimum capacity of 6,000. However, it will be designed in a way that allows the capacity to be increased up to 12,000.”
