Brian Page views a selection of very different but equally stylish attractive homes to let in and around York.

WE have a good mix of different properties to talk about this week – ranging from modern and traditional city centre houses to lovely village homes.

Without further preamble, then, let us get on with it… Starting with a period terraced home in Sandringham Street, a des res spot within easy walking distance of the city – and with a lot to offer in terms of space and comfort.

Here you will find an entrance hall leading to a large lounge with a Georgian-style cast iron fireplace with coal effect gas fire as a period feature – along with stained flooring underfoot and ceiling coving overhead.

There is a smart dining room and an attractive kitchen. with a range of fitted Shaker style base and drawer units with beech-effect doors under and wood block effect laminate worktops over (and there is a useful, separate, utility room and ground floor cloakroom).

On the first floor there are two bedrooms and a house bathroom before you trot up a further flight of stairs to find a third bedroom. lit up by Velux lights and with varnished flooring.

Outside, the package is wrapped up with a paved forecourt to the front and an enclosed rear yard. The rental for this quality property is £975pcm and interested parties should get in touch with Stephensons.

In complete contrast, Letters of Distinction can offer a very splendid heart of the city home in the shape of a top floor duplex apartment in the prestigious riverside development of Waterfront House.

This is a property with spectacular views across the river (the clue is in the name!) and to York’s impressive skyline beyond. “Probably unrivalled,” is how the letting agents describe those views and it is hard to argue.

There is plenty on offer internally with an entrance hallway leading to a breakfast kitchen (with a good range of integrated appliances), a separate lounge and dining area – both of which are a good size. There are also two double bedrooms and a family bathroom on this floor.

Upstairs is something of a ‘wow factor’ spot in the shape of a master bedroom with an en-suite shower room and with French windows leading out on to a patio/balcony from which you can enjoy wonderful views. Letters of Distinction are asking for a rental of £1,225pcm.

Next we are going to Now we wend our way across town to another modern city centre home, this one an unusual detached house in Monkgate Cloisters, a very short walk away from the centre’s shops, bars and restaurants.

Here you will find a smart sitting room with double doors opening on to a conservatory and a further door to a rear courtyard garden. This room has an archway to a dining room while there is a well fitted kitchen. with a range of appliances including a built-in Zanussi double oven, fridge and freezer and dishwasher.

On the first floor are two double bedrooms, one with a range of built-in wardrobes and a house bathroom.

To the Outside there is a lawned garden to the front and off street parking leading to a garage (a bonus that is so close to the city centre).

This property is offered by Hudson Moody at a rental of £950pcm.

Now, two more period homes…The first is in Murray Street, in the Holgate area, a recently redecorated and beautifully presented mid-terrace house. The period features begin in the entrance hallway where there is original period flooring.

The living room has an attractive bay window and feature fireplace and a dining room with doors leading to a patio area. Next you take in the dazzle of a light, bright kitchen leading to a sun room which overlooks an easy maintenance a rear garden. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, both with original period fireplaces, and a house bathroom.

“Must be viewed to be appreciated,” say Rental agents Letters of Distinction, who have set a figure of £750pcm.

There are similar period touches in our next pick, an end terraced traditional home in Prospect Terrace, Fulford. This is a big and beautiful home – which will be decorated between tenants – in a good spot, handy not just for York but for the A64 and commuting routes (and Fulford itself, a super village with lots of local amenities and some very good pubs!).

This home has two reception rooms, a modern fitted kitchen, a large double bedroom, single bedroom. and a small third room ideal for use as a dressing room or study and there is a good first floor house bathroom. It is offered by Letters Ltd at a rental of £795pcm.

And finally off to another village to find a really pretty cottage in Church Lane, Nether Poppleton. We really liked this as it has a great deal of charm and is presented to a high spec.

There is a large sitting room, farmhouse style dining kitchen and utility room on the first floor. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with a secondary bedroom which would be ideal as a dressing room or study – and there is another double bedroom and a family bathroom. Nice property, nice spot, it is The rental, on offer by Ashtons, is £925pcm.
