Brian Page with a round-up of some smart homes to suit young professionals in the York area

NOT being either young or (according to some) particularly professional, we thought that this week we would have a look at properties suitable for... young professionals.

York is reasonably well-served in this market with, as our examples below show, a good range of different styles of home to suit, as they say, all tastes.

We will start with a super character property in Oglethorpe, one of the city’s most atmospheric streets.

Approached via a stunning staircase, this “show-stopping luxury double-bedroom penthouse apartment”

is located within the shadow of the Minster and has amazing views over this ancient city.

The contemporary furniture complements the feature lighting, open beams and beautiful polished wood floors, and the stunning open plan sitting/dining/kitchen has two amazing windows that drop down and open up to let the outside in.

A beautiful bathroom, with separate shower, finishes off a really smart offering. It’s on the books of Arena at a rental of £775pcm (with close-by secure parking included).

Next we have a smart converted ground-floor flat in Beaconsfield Street, Acomb. Newly and fully refurbished from former commercial premises, it now offers two generous bedrooms and smart bathroom, a fully fitted kitchen with electric cooker, a useful dining area with storage cupboard and a light and spacious living room.

Warmed by gas central heating and with a rear courtyard with secure bicycle storage unit, it is offered by Letters of Distinction at a rental of £625pcm (water rates included).

Also ground floor, we have an unfurnished apartment in Escrick Street, a handy spot for the city centre.

This home briefly offers a smart sitting room, separate kitchen, inner hall and a bedroom and bathroom.

An allocated parking space is included in the rental of £525pcm sought by Reeds Rains.

From ground floor to top floor, our next pick is a part-furnished topfloor apartment in Shelley House, Acomb. Close to local amenities and with easy access to the city centre and outer ring road, it’s in a good spot.

And it’s a nice property internally, with an entrance hallway, open-plan lounge/dining/kitchen area (with appliances including electric hob and oven, washing machine and fridge).

There are two large double bedrooms and a nicely-fitted bathroom.

In addition, you get a garage and a further allocated parking space. This one is offered by Linley and Simpson at £695pcm.

And it’s room at the top again with our next property, a smart unfurnished one-bedroomed flat on the top floor of Westward House, a development off Huntington Road. A Modern Millie, this one offers contemporary living style including a fitted kitchen with washing machine, fridge, freezer, electric oven and hob.

The spacious living room has views towards the Minster and there is a good double bedroom with fitted wardrobes and smart bathroom with shower. An allocated parking space is included in the £595pcm rental sought by Letters Ltd.

If you are looking for a house rather than a flat, then the same agents are offering a smart two-bedroomed town house in Rainsborough Way, Clifton (handy for Clifton Moor shopping and the outer ring road).

Highlights here include a fitted kitchen with gas hob and electric oven, living room with electric fire, two double bedrooms and bathroom.

Driveway to the front and paved rear garden with side border areas to the back completes the picture.

Letters Ltd are asking for £625pcm.

Copleys, meanwhile, have a very desirable pad in Postern Close, Bishops Wharfe, a sought-after spot in the heart of the city centre.

On offer here is an entrance hall, lounge/diner, a contemporary fullyfitted kitchen (appliances include fridge-freezer and washing machine/dryer, oven and hob).

There’s a double bedroom with fitted wardrobes and a single bedroom (both with beds) and a bathroom.

The bonus of an allocated parking space is included in the rental of £650pcm.

And, finally, it’s back to Linley and Simpson, to check out a smart period end-terrace house in Fairfax Street in the des-res Bishophill area (within the city walls and easy walking distance to the city centre and the station and with lots of trendy types about).

The property has been recently renovated throughout, is offered unfurnished and the highlights include an entrance hall, lounge, dining room, kitchen with fridge-freezer, oven and hob, two double bedrooms and a first-floor bathroom with shower over bath.

The house also has an outside courtyard and on street permit parking.

L&S are seeking £825pcm.
