Lettings: rural rentals around York

11:48am Thursday 18th March 2010

Take me home country roads, to the place I belong… well, if not quite West Virginia then at least good old Yorkshire.

After two weeks of focusing on city-centre apartments, this week we’ve decided to don our Barbour and wellies and head to the country to take in some rural properties.

And there appears to be quite a few of them about. Letters ltd, for instance, sent us a choice of six to choose from. Sadly, we can’t feature them all, but you can get details of their rural range by popping into their offices. In the meantime, here are a pretty pair.

The first is in Cherry Tree Walk at Barlby, an immaculately presented four-bedroomed unfurnished detached house, ideally situated for both Leeds and York.

Highlights here include a modern fitted kitchen with gas hob, double oven and dishwasher; the lounge boasts a feature fireplace and there’s a dining room with door-to-rear garden. The master bedroom has fitted wardrobes and an en-suite shower room. There’s a further double bedroom and two singles. The rent is £695 pcm.

The second Letters ltd offering is in Chapel Walk, Riccall. A good-sized, four-bed detached house in a popular village, this one has a lounge and separate dining room and a new fitted kitchen. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room. Gardens to front back and sides complete the package which is offered at £695pcm.

Meanwhile, Reeds Rains at Acomb have a delightful three-bed semi on Common Road at Skipwith. This is definitely one for the green-fingered types, as it has a large rear garden with greenhouse and shed. The rent is £650pcm.

That house is in a picturesque setting – as is our next pick, Sober Hill Farm at Holme upon Spalding Moor. Agents Quantum say: “With open views as far as the eye can see, this is a perfect family home for children, home grown veg and horses or dogs!” The property is an extensive converted farmhouse set in open grounds and offers two living rooms, a dining room, five bedrooms, one with en suite, a large family bathroom, utility and cloaks. Some rooms have cosy wood burners and there is also oil central heating. There are large gardens and a stable – and, what’s more, a granny/nanny flat. Quantum are looking for £1,200pcm.

Not to be outdone, Linley and Simpson have a superb home on the books – The Old Glebe Farm at Bulmer. This is a beautifully presented four-bed detached family home smack in the middle of this pretty hilltop village. An “idyllic country retreat”, it has two large reception rooms to the front, a spacious dining kitchen and a garden room.

Upstairs there is the master bedroom, two more doubles and a single bedroom. And you can enjoy the views from extensive gardens at the back of the house which include a vegetable plot, pond and summer house. The rental is £1,500pcm.

A “must-see” property is how Hunters describe Oakwood House, on Market Weighton Road at Selby. It’s an individual, characterful, detached farm house situated within its own grounds and with easy access to commuter routes to Selby, York, Howden and the M62, M1 and A1 motorway networks. The property benefits from oil central heating and some UPVC double glazing and briefly comprises an entrance hall, dining kitchen with Aga, utility room, lounge with open fire, dining room and downstairs shower room. On the first floor there are four bedrooms and a house bathroom. Outside, the property is accessed via electric gates and is set in mature gardens and double garage. Hunters are seeking £1,250pcm.

If that sounds a bit rich for you, then here are a couple of homes at very reasonable prices… Ashtons are marketing what they describe as a “lovely little two-bed cottage” in Gate Helmsley with a super garden. It is indeed a cute cottage, handsome looking from the outside and with a good lounge with bags of character. And, yes, the garden is long, mainly laid to lawn and attractive. The agents are seeking £650pcm.

And Martin and Co have a superbly presented, unfurnished terraced cottage in Riccall with an entrance hall, lounge with feature fireplace and a kitchen/diner with patio doors to the south-facing enclosed rear garden. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with wardrobes (wall-mounted television to remain), two single bedrooms and a bathroom. Rental here is £595pcm.

And finally, soaring back to the top end of the market, Letters of Distinction are offering a “fabulously renovated” four-bed detached house in Longland Lane at Whixley.

The owner has extensively renovated the whole property throughout so now the house offers four bedrooms, each with built in wardrobes (master bedroom with en-suite shower room with double shower cubicle) and a house bathroom with shower over bath. There is a large living room with cast-iron fireplace with surround and patio doors out to rear garden, a dining room, downstairs cloakroom and a fully fitted kitchen with electric oven, ceramic hob, extractor fan and freestanding fridge-freezer.

To complete the ground-floor accommodation there is a useful utility area with plumbing for a washing machine and additional Belfast sink unit.

Finally, the property includes a double garage with electric door access and well-manicured gardens to front and rear. The rental here is £1,695pcm.
