Infants offered swine flu vaccine

SWINE flu jabs are now being offered to babies and toddlers in York as part of the NHS’s next phase of immunisation.

NHS North Yorkshire and York is sending out letters to parents of children aged over six months and those under five, asking them to make an appointment with their GP.

A spokesman for the trust said while the amount of people going to their doctor with suspected swine flu symptoms had declined, he added “a pandemic does not go away”.

He said extending immunisation to young children was the second phase of vaccination following treatment of vulnerable groups such as those aged over 65 and pregnant women.

Dr Phil Kirby, associate director of public health at NHS North Yorkshire and York, said: “While it is a personal choice, I would advise all parents whose children are offered the vaccine to take it up.

“Young children are particularly vulnerable to severe illness as a result of swine flu, and children under five have significantly higher rates of hospitalisation than children aged five to 15. They also have high rates of admission to critical care.

“Vaccination is the best way to protect young children from possible complications. If you have any concerns about the vaccine you can talk to your GP or practice nurse.”

I don't know anyone who's had Swine Flu, although I know quite a lot who've been off work ill for up to a week after having the vaccine. I think I'll leave it thanks.

I had the swine flu vaccine when I was over 8 months pregnant and both of my young children have had the vaccine and none of us have had any side effects. The vaccine is in-active and therefore I would question anyone who has time off following the vaccination.

Just type "swine flue hoax" into google. Says it all really! This has been nothing but a money making scam from the beginning by the pharm industry who have made £billions from it.
Don't have the vaccine.

you can put any search terms + 'hoax' and come up with mad stuff. Try AIDS + 'hoax' or Cancer + 'hoax' ... Big pharma are certainly bad boys- but it doesn't mean that the underlying issue isn't a problem

Well from reading all the comments here, lets pretend Swine Flu is real, okay it's been nowhere near as bad as expected thankfully. Now us tax payers paid a lot of money for the vaccination, which will be wasted if it's not used. So if you want to see your tax money back as a form of credit well get your kids the shot.
Because it's already been paid for and has an expiry date I'm betting.

I have had the swine flu vaccination without any ill effects whatsoever. I know of somebody who had swine flu and it was quite nasty.
I know now I wont get it.

Maybe not, but what will be the long term effects of a mercury based compound being injected into your body?

I've had swine flu. It wasn't the worst cold I've had, just the media over reacting at something that will sell papers. Then the government jumped on the bandwagon, propelled by the media frenzy, and it all blew out of proportion.
`
I'm a 24 year old healthy male, I'll be the last one to get a vaccine, not that I particularly care. The people who do get it, get a week off, those who don't have to plod on regardless.
