Numbers of people seeking help for ‘swine flu’ halved in North Yorkshire

THE number of people seeking checks on whether they have caught Swine flu has more than halved across North Yorkshire in the last month.

New figures released by NHS North Yorkshire and York revealed 26 people attended York Hospital with swine flu-like symptoms between December 10 and January 8, as well as two in the Scarborough area and six in the Harrogate district.

But they also showed the consultation rate for flu-like illnesses per 100,000 people in the region fell to 11.8 as of this week, compared with a level of 28.9 in mid-December.

Dr Phil Kirby, NHS North Yorkshire and York’s associate director of public health, said: “It’s encouraging to see our flu consultation rate fall, but we must not be complacent.

“Swine flu continues to pose a risk to those who are most vulnerable, such as children and pregnant women.

“Our GPs are continuing to offer the swine flu vaccine to those in the ‘at risk’ groups and I would encourage all those who have been offered the jab to take it up – if you can’t catch it, you can’t pass it on.”

So far, Yorkshire and the Humber has seen 27 swine flu-related deaths since the pandemic first struck, with four of those coming in the latest period for which statistics are available. There has been no confirmation about where these victims were from.

maybe peopel are finally realising that this was a major con on the parts of the Pharm industry who made £billions in selling a vaccine for nothing more than seasonal flue we see every year and also the timing of it in the UK to set panic alarm bells ringing just as the MPs expenses row was at boiling point and people were wanting Gordon Brown & Labour out of Number 10 - what a perfect dsitraction plan and money making scam rolled into one.

You're probably correct yet yr comments also chillingly remind me of the blasé, "nothing to worry about, everyone stay calm" protestations one often reads in the prologue of a science fiction story - shortly before the end of mankind is announced!
.
Swine Flu has resisted Tamiflu (which the experts claimed it couldn't) and now it's jumped from humans to animals, (which again we were told was impossible).
.
SF probably is 99% media hype but if the possibility exists of a global pandemic of mutating flu then the 1% is worth taking seriously.
.
I would suggest The Stand by Stephen King as recquired reading.

Perhaps it also has something to do with the fact that once again, qualified medics are doing the diagnosing instead of 16 year old dole-ites, shoe-horned into a call centre!

And Sooth - you are spot on - The Stand by Stephen King is one of my favourite reads and was one of the first things I thought of as SF hysteria swept the globe!

Even better when Rupert Murdochs son joined the board at the manufaturers of the swine flu vaccine early last year.

Nothing like wall to wall swine flu news on Sky to bump up profits is there?

I know I've proffered my email before but here it is again (and all the spam from bogus African treasury ministers that will inevitably come my way as a result!): soothsayer17@gmx.com

.
It's a highly disposable address (recommend you use one too if you email) which I'll kill if/when you make contact - and don't worry about mischief; I have some cunning questions to ensure we can both prove we are who we say we are.
.
Basically, I intend to make tomorrow my final day on here cos after a few years of posting, it's finally starting to do my head in. That said, I have tried quitting this site before without success (pity you can't get patches) but if Heworthsnapper and LittleTed can manage it then I'm sure I can too. However, I fear for the eternally verbal diarrhoea-stricken Garrowby Turnoff…!
.
Anyhow, I promise I'm not doing this as step one of a cunning plan to meet in the real world, it's genuinely just to swap the occasional email - I certainly have some juicy York gossip that I wouldn't dare put on here. Anyhow, the choice is yours and if you decide against then no probs at all & I'll continue to read yr comments with interest. Peace x
