Sign of man’s failure

IT is astounding that the Government is preparing to spend £50 million to “celebrate” the centenary of the Great War.

All this while poor folk are sinking steadily towards poverty suggestive of Dickens’ times, while decent social amenities arestarved of cash – and many children will have no toys at Christmas.

War is the worst thing ever inflicted upon this poor planet and a sign of man’s failure.

We should be remembering it in a spirit of quiet contemplation together with a determination to find political mechanisms to make war impossible.

This is our debt to the many who have suffered loss in war, which at the moment is being re-glamorised and furnished for profit.

We should be using our limited resources with wisdom and compassion.

"I agree with you on that one.
It never ceases to amaze me they can always come up with money and yet we keep getting told there is none.Maybe we are getting foreign aid".

Whilst I agree that we should remember wars as the failure of mankind I still think that the folk who endured those times and lived through real hardship with resourcefulness and good grace will find your comments regarding modern day Dickensian poverty levels as hysterical.

But we did, and it's a very valid point and intelligent comment.
