Oh, just pick it all up

I read with interest the letter from Russell Stone, had of Neighbourhood Pride, regarding York’s rubbish-strewn streets (Letters, October 12).

I noted that he says... “We regularly visit businesses...” “We have met residents...” “We are working with…” “We are starting talks...”

But when are they going to do something, such as clear the rubbish?

ME Hardcastle, Foundry Square, Dixons Yard, York.

Its not that simple Mr Hardcastle, shops etc pay private contractors to collect their trade waste, the council just cannot collect it as they are passing, just like a private contractor wouldnt collect rubbish put out for the council bin-men.

Having visited york many times I feel its not so much up to the council to keep the city clean, but up to the population to take pride in their beautiful city and clean up after themselves!!
