A Derwent century
9:48am Tuesday 16th October 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
NEXT year the National Railway Museum will bring together five A4 sister locomotives to Mallard to commemorate the 75 years since it broke the world land steam record.
Three miles from York another railway is putting on a special event next year. On July 20 and 21, the Derwent Valley Light Railway Society, at Murton Park, Murton, is celebrating 100 years since the 16 mile-line opened for passenger service.
Jonothan Stockwell, the society archivist, has made contact with a few former employees of the DVLR. If any one else has had any connection with the original line, please phone Jonothan on 01132 866800. The half-mile preserved railway is run by a small group of volunteers dedicated to keeping this railway alive.
