We’ll all miss Bob
10:39am Friday 12th October 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
I’VE followed York City for 50 years, and in that time I’ve met some characters on the terraces, one of those being Bob Morrell (The Press, October 6).
I’d been to the Rotherham game and noticed his absence, but I never gave it another thought, chatting with his mate Dave at intervals during the game.
But on reading The Press when I got home, I was deeply shocked to see the headline “Tributes to York City stalwart” above his photo.
Coming from Thirsk, I only met Bob, inset, Dave and the gang from the Selby area on match days. He always had that happy smile about him, ready with a quip about anything football-related.
I don’t go as often as I used to, so it was no surprise to hear Bob say, “Hey up, part-timers are here”, or “You tell ’um Pete” on any football topic.
And it just wasn’t the same on Saturday in hindsight. Dave was there with his mates, but sadly no Bob. York City is built around fans like Bob.
Thanks for the memories, you’ll be missed.
Pete Stokell, Hambleton Avenue, Thirsk.
