Out of context

AS ONE of the professional team privileged to assist York Conservation Trust in the sympathetic restoration to reuse St Antony’s Hall, The Bluecoat School and Cowards Printworks – “The Borthwick” as we still refer to it – I feel qualified to offer an informed opinion on this proposal for the Hiscox HQ on Peasholme Green.

It’s quite appalling and will be totally out of context with the area.

Hiscox are my own insurers – and excellent to deal with – but they are not short of a bob or two and really should be able to do better if they want to meet the architectural standards appropriate to this historic city.

It's hard to disagree with this letter. It would be great if Hiscox would think again about this design.

Im sure that many Press readers will want to give the company an unreserved welcome to the city, but this intrusive building design gets in the way of that.
